Computers & Printing

How can I reserve a computer?
Most computers and scanners must be reserved using a valid library card from anywhere in Illinois. We have 5 computers that can be used for 30 minutes without reservation. The library sells a computer-access-only card for $5/year, for those who are not eligible for library cards.

22 computer workstations in our Reference area and 8 workstations in the Loft are equipped with the Internet and a wide range of software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.  2 Macs are located in the Teen Loft.  If you do not sign in to your computer within 10-minutes, your reservation will be cancelled.

Sign up for a scanner with your library card.  Our copiers can scan without a library card.

Equipment for Visual Enhancement
A computer for the visually impaired with software that magnifies text and images is located in the Reader Services Department.

Did you know the library began WiFi access in 2001?  Access is available throughout the second floor and third floor as well as in the public meeting rooms on the first floor. The network is open and users are strongly encouraged to take precautions to protect laptops and other Internet devices.

Anyone using library Internet Access (either on our terminals or their own device) must agree to abide by our Internet Access Policy.

Interactive Classroom
Our Interactive Classroom seats 12, and is the setting for our computer classes on a wide variety of applications and eResources.  View information about our upcoming Technology Classes.

Copying and Printing
The library has one copier on the first floor and three copier/printers on the second floor.  All have black and white and color capabilities. These units also can be used as scanners. Along with standard printing, jobs can be emailed or saved to a flash drive. There is an additional black and white printer in the Loft.

Begin Wi-Fi Printing

Thanks to the Friends of the Northbrook Library, you can now print from your Internet connected PC to our printer, located near the 2nd floor Reference desk. Print jobs will remain in the print queue for two hours, and must be printed during normal business hours.
