Thu, 05/16/2013 - 6:12am

NORTHBROOK — Adam Kromelow, a pianist who grew up in Wilmette studying under a Glenview teacher, will present on Tuesday (May 21) a one-of-kind concert in Northbrook. Kromelow, who now lives in New York, will play a piano duo called the Genesis Piano Project with Angelo Di Loreto of New York – on two pianos at the same time, not just two pianists at one piano. “We will play two-piano arrangements of the music of the rock band ‘Genesis.’ This is quite a unique performance because 99 percent of the duo piano music is either classical or improvised jazz. Thu, 05/16/2013 - 6:11am

NORTHBROOK — orthbrook groups and businesses interested in participating in the Fourth of July parade must apply to do so by May 31. YMCA to take over drug and alcohol awareness group

Thu, 05/16/2013 - 4:56am

NORTHBROOK — Instead of fading from existence, the Northbrook Citizens For Drug and Alcohol Awareness will live on through the North Suburban YMCA. The two organizations have merged, which will allow the work of the anti-drug organization to continue, said Marcia Doniger, NCDAA’s president. Doniger had announced several weeks ago that she was retiring from the program after running it for 30 years. And while volunteers were available to put time into it, no one wanted to lead it, which meant that it would have to end unless someone stepped forward. So she was thrilled when she heard that Howard …

Northbrook considers drafting regulations for food trucks

Wed, 05/15/2013 - 9:28am

NORTHBROOK — Northbrook is thinking about setting rules for food trucks that would allow them to please the palates of foodies without aggravating restaurant owners. Their rise in popularity throughout the Chicago area has led to code revisions with varying degrees of regulation and enforcement in several communities, said Michael Strong, a Northbrook management analyst, during Tuesday’s village board meeting. The trucks have become more sophisticated, offer a lot of food menu options and are considered by some a key ingredient to a vibrant community, he added. Strong also noted that the “restaurants on wheels” also offer an entrepreneurial opportunity …
