Jennifer Whiting will lead the Northbrook Community Choir on May 31 in a concert called "ChiaroScuro" Light and Shadow" at the Northbrook Theatre. 45 members will be accompanied by a string quartet, piano and percussion. Come to the Northbrook Garden Club's Perennial Plant Sale on Friday (noon to 4 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) May 17 and 18 at Meadowhill Park Bike Chalet. The annual Kids' Fishing Derby from the Northbrook Park District is scheduled to take place at Wood Oaks Green Park on Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Volunteers are needed on Saturday, May 25 at 10 a.m. for the Posting of Flags on Veteran's grave sites at the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Lee Road. All residents are welcome to participate. The Sports Center Pool will open for the 2013 season on Saturday, May 25. Preseason hours are 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. on weekends and the holiday and 3 - 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. The regular season begins on June 8 when Meadowhill Aquatic Center opens. Visit nbparks.org
