As part of Banned Books Week (September 30 - October 6), I've made a survey of the 109 most challenged/banned book of the past 12 years. Follow this link and check the box of every banned book you've read. Honor system - ya'll.
What was the best teen book you read in the last year (or so)?
As part of Teen Read Week (Oct. 14-20), we're compiling a list of our favorite YA books from 2012 - or thereabouts. We're not going to give your choice the ax because it was published in 2011. Now, if your book came out in 2005...it's gonna see the chopping block.
We have a great line up of new science programs for the fall. Science Explorers for grades 1-2 combines basic science concepts with hands-on activities. No previous lab experience is necessary, so sign up today for the first two programs in the series. We'll meet on Tuesday, September 4 & October 30, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the Youth Services Activity Room.

Every year the American Library Association chooses a children's book of outstanding literary quality to be awarded the Newbery Medal. At the Mock Newbery Book Discussions participants read 2012 books that have been receiving starred reviews and have a strong chance of winning the medal. If you are in grades 4-7, register at the Youth Services Desk to join us on Wednesday September 12 from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m.
