Introducing the New Catalog: Enterprise


On September 15th, the Northbrook Library and 23 other local libraries in the Cooperative Computer Services (CCS) consortium will switch from using BiblioCommons (BC) as the catalog to using Enterprise.

Throughout August and September we’ll be holding demonstrations of the new catalog and how to use it, as well as demonstrate how to transfer your tags and reviews to other resources. How will the catalog change?


The look of the catalog will change. With Enterprise, you'll also be able to:
- Download e-books and eAudiobooks directly from the catalog
- Sign-in easily with your library card number and password
- Send yourself a text or email about items in the catalog
- View the catalog in multiple languages
- Use the ADA-compliant view

You will no longer be able to log in with your username. If you've lost your library card and don't know your number, please stop by the check out desk with some current ID (bank statement, driver's license, state ID, utility bill, etc.) and you can get a new card.

As always, you'll be able to search and view the collections of all 24 libraries in the consortium, renew materials, pay fines, and place holds


Do I need to do anything for the migration? What about my holds, renewals, fines, and any items I have checked out?


Your holds, fines, renewals, and any borrowed materials will make the switch to Enterprise, so there's nothing you will need to do!

However, if you create lists and/or use the My Shelves features in BiblioCommons, you might wish to take action to preserve your tags and any reviews, as those items will not be migrated to Enterprise.  

Please note: August 15 is the cut-off date for adding any new lists to your account, or for adding items to lists and shelves. New BiblioCommons lists or changes to existing BiblioCommons lists and shelves made after August 15th will not be migrated to Enterprise.

I use the My Shelves feature. Will those shelves (My Completed, In Progress, For Later) be migrated to my account in Enterprise?


All three shelves should migrate to your account in Enterprise. Again, any new list or item you add to a list or shelf after August 15th will not be migrated over.

I create and use my own lists in BiblioCommons. Will those be migrated over to my account in Enterprise? What about tags and reviews I've made?


Yes, all the lists that you've created in BiblioCommons should migrate over and retain their list names, but will be private (i.e., only viewable by you, and not shared publicly). However, tags and reviews/annotations will not make the switch to Enterprise.


How can I save the tags and reviews that I've made in my BiblioCommons lists?


We’ve put together several free resources you can use if you wish to transfer your lists with their tags and reviews from BC, before the switchover. Please note, lists and shelves content should automatically be migrated to Enterprise; the resources below would be useful if you wish to retain your reviews and tags.

GoodReads: Personal bookshelves, rate and review books, see what others are reading, participate in discussion boards and groups, get suggestions for future reads.

LibraryThing: Catalog books, write reviews, connect with others through Forums and Groups.

Shelfari: Catalog books, contribute to information pages, write reviews, connect with others through Forums and Groups.

WeRead: Catalog books, contribute to information pages, write reviews, connect with others through Forums and Groups, read online.

Libib: Catalog, rate and notate books, movies, and games.

The Reading Room: Catalog, rate and review books, read sample chapters online, participate in group discussions.


Supported Browsers & the Catalog

The catalog works best on the two most recent versions of Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Safari on desktop/laptop computers.


Currently, it is not fully supported for any browser on mobile/tablet devices. Functionality may be limited.
