The Parisian Salon Concerts association was founded by Didier Lepauw during November, 1999, inJane and Didier Lepauw Chicago, as part of an international tribute to Frederic Chopin launched by UNESCO, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the great composer's death.

Inspired by the Parisian salons of old, and by Chopin's preference for playing in the private salons of wealthy and aristocratic patrons, Mr. Lepauw organized 14 Parisian Salon Concerts in downtown Chicago. Didier was formerly First Violinist of the Paris Symphony.

The current home of the monthly Parisian Salon Concerts is the Northbrook Public Library of Illinois.

Performances by talented musicians are organized and introduced by Jane and Didier Lepauw on the First Fridays of each month, year 'round, starting at 7:30pm, and ADMISSION IS FREE. The organization continues to support and propagate the art of music.

" Classical music is the kind we keep thinking will  turn into a tune. " Kin Hubbard (1868 - 1930)

Recap of Our October Concert
( Jul 03, 2009 ) mmo
Program of the Parisian Salon Concert given on Oct. 3, 2008.
------------------------------------------

Didier and Jane Lepauw welcomed the audience and described that the upcoming program would have a few last-minute, unexpected changes.

The first performance was by concert pianist George Lepauw, who played Liszt’s shimmering “Jeux d’eau”. George explained to the audience that the piece was part of Liszt’s Années de pèlerinage, and was ahead of its time, in the sense that the music was impressionistic, pre-dating the Impressionist painters of Paris.

Then, Mr. Seth Boustead of “Accessible Contemporary Music” introduced the quartet members who would perform a composition by Philippe Hersant who lives in Paris. Hersant's “Nachtgesang” conveys a mood, and it was performed by :

Hulya Alpakin, piano,
Alyson Berger, cello,
Blagomira Lipari, violin, and K.T. Somero, clarinet.

All are members of www.acmusic.org , whose mission is to promote the music of living composers through concerts, outreach and innovative use of its website. A.C.M. is dedicated to bringing contemporary music to new audiences and dreams of a time when the Classical tradition again looks forward instead of backward. Mr. Boustead announced that a free A.C.M. performance, including the World Premiere of Stéphane Delplace’s “Sextet”, would take place on October 5 at 3pm in Preston Bradley Hall of the Chicago Cultural Center, with the composer in attendance.

To conclude the evening, Ms. Aruna Serbanescu, mezzo-soprano, performed short songs by Verdi in honor of the anniversary of his birthday coming on October 10 (b.1813). She was accompanied on piano by George Lepauw. She also performed adaptations of Romanian folk songs, many were about love. She and George will give a recital on Tuesday, October 14 at Curtis Hall, in the Fine Arts Building, 410 S. Michigan Avenue at 6:30pm. Details at
www.georgelepauw.com/performances

The next Parisian Salon Concert will be offered on Friday November 7, at 7:30pm and will mark the 9th birthday of the P.S.C. series organized by the Lepauws.
