musical notes

In 2004 Northbrook School District 28 adopted Spurgeon School, located in the Kibera slum in Nairobi, Kenya. A concert at NBJH featuring the Axidents, 7 Cents, Radio Edit and Charlie and Maxine is scheduled for January 27, 2012 with a pizza, bake sale, t-shirt sale starting at 6:15 prior to the concert. Admission is $10. Proceeds will be used to buy food, water, medicine, school supplies and to build a high school for girls. All students 3rd grade and under must be accompanied by an adult.

ISI

The ISI (Ice Skating Institute) encompasses all aspects of the ice skating industry. It was founded in 1959 as a nonprofit organization for owners, operators and developers of ice skating facilities. The Ice Skating Institute is your chief advocate and top source of leadership, education and services for those who love to skate. On February 17-19 almost 1,000 skaters from across the country will compete at the Park District  rink. There is no charge for spectators. HO gauge train cars

The Mid-America Modular Rail Club will display a HO gauge modular railroad display at the Northbrook Historical Society on January 21 and 28, 12-4 p.m. and January 22 and 29, 12-3 p.m.

Don't miss the Winter Carnival on Saturday, January 14, 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at Meadowhill Park. You are guaranteed a fun time!

On Sunday, January 8, 2012, St. Norbert Church will host clergy from area churches, synagogues, and experts on the issue of violence. Want to learn about the problem of violence in our time, how it affects everyone, and what can be done to stop it? In a nationwide remembrance of the Tucson shootings, come and talk about the toll that violence takes on our society.

Village Green Field was selected as the 2011 Schools and Parks Baseball Field of the Year.  Congratulations to the Northbrook Park District. Only 11 ball fields in the country received a prestigious Sports Turf Managers Association award. The Northbrook Park District field was named the best in its class.

Drop off a new and unwrapped toy for "Toys for Tots" and place it in a collection barrel by December 16.The Northbrook Police Department, Northbrook Fire Department, and the Village Hall are collection sites and they welcome your new donated toys for underprivileged children.

Christmas trees will be picked up starting the week of January 2 based on your recycling day in Northbrook.

The Winter Concert at GBN will take place on Tuesday, December 13 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. in the Glenbrook Center for Performing Arts.

melodeers chorus

The Melodeers Chorus recently returned from the Sweet Adelines International Chorus Competition in Houston, TX, winning their Sixth International Championship. 140 women sing four-part a cappella harmony with their director, Jim Arns and choreographer, Renee Porzel.
