Zinio for Kindle Fire Users

You’ll need to create two accounts to access our digital magazines:

-the RBDigital Library account allows you to use your library card to check out digital magazines from the library

-the Zinio.com account fulfills your check out and allows you to read magazines on your computer or send them to an app on your portable device

Set Up Your Accounts

1. Open a browser ("Web") on your device

2. Go to the RBDigital site. You'll be taken to the library's own collection of digital magazines

3. Browse or search for titles of interest

  • to check out a magazine, tap the "Check Out Now" link
  • to view a list of available back issues, tap the "Back Issues Available" link. Tap the "Check Out Now" link under an issue to check it out

4. Tap on “Create Account” when prompted

5. Enter your library card number, without spaces, when prompted. Tap “Next”

6. Fill in the requested information and tap “Create Account”. Be
sure to note your email and password after creating the account

7. In the pop-up window that appears, tap “Start Reading” to go to Zinio and complete your checkout, or tap "Keep Browsing" to find more magazines to checkout

8. When you tap "Start Reading", a new window or tab will open at Zinio.com

9. On the Zinio.com page, create an account with Zinio. Tap "New? Create a Zinio account" and enter your name, email, and a password. It may be easier to use the same email and password that you used for the RB Digital Library account. Tap “Register”. Be sure to note your email and password

 

Install the Zinio App: Special Instructions for Kindle Fire Users

The Zinio app is not available via the App Store. Use these instructions to download and install the app on your Kindle Fire:

1. From the main screen on your Fire, put your finger on the top right corner of the screen and 'swipe' your finger down to bring up the Settings menu. Tap: More > Device > Allow installation of Applications (from unknown devices)> select "ON".

2. Download the APK (app installer) from here (just tap this link on your Kindle Fire)

3. To monitor your download put your finger on the top left corner of the screen and 'swipe' down or pull down, as if you were pulling a curtain down. This will show the download progress. Once the download is complete, tap the file that you just downloaded, select "Install" and press "Open" when the installation is complete.  If you don't see the download, open up a browser on your Fire by tapping Web. Tap the navigation button (three horizontal lines) on the left of the browser. Tap Downloads, the tap the Zinio file you just downloaded and tap Install when prompted

4. Once the app is installed, open it. Tap on the Zinio icon when asked to sign in

5. On the sign in page, enter the email address and password you used to create your Zinio account and tap “Sign In”

6. You’ll be taken to Your Library in the app, where the magazines you checked out will be listed. Tap the  ↓ to download the magazine to your device. Begin reading. Now that you’ve completed the setup, follow the instructions below whenever you want to check out a new title or issue


How to Check Out and Download  Magazines after the Initial Setup

1. Open a browser on your device

2. Go to www.rbdigital.com/northbrookil/zinio and tap on “Zinio”

3. Find a magazine and tap “Check Out Now”

4. Log in to your RBDigital account info with your email/password

5. Go to the Zinio app on your device and open it. Tap the ↓ on the cover to download the magazine and read it

 

To Delete an Issue from Your Device

1. Open the Zinio app

2. Go to your list of issues

3. Tap the "Edit" icon at the top of the screen

4. Tap the "X" to delete the issue
