Going Green with NPL

Do you have dried-up markers, old paint brushes and broken crayons to get rid of? During the month of August, you can recycle them at the library. Drop them off at the Youth Services desk on the second floor and we will send them to Terracycle to be repurposed. You can also bring them to our booth at the Farmers Market on July 23 or August 20.

Did you know you can recycle milk and juice cartons made of paperboard? Here is a list of the types of containers you can put in your recycling bin in Northbrook:

  • Aluminum cans, trays and foil
  • Steel cans and tins
  • Milk and juice cartons or jugs
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Soda, water and beverage bottles
  • Detergent and fabric softener containers
  • Health and beauty product containers
  • Household cleaner bottles
  • Margarine tubs
  • Frozen desert cups and yogurt cups
  • Six pack rings
  • Syrup and ketchup bottles

You can also commingle paper goods including newspapers, magazines and catalogs, paperback books (no hardcovers), phone books, wrapping paper, and cardboard and chipboard boxes. See the Village website for a complete list of acceptable items.

Pollak Room AB

Warm, wet winters, severe storms, and record heat waves. Climate change has arrived in our neighborhood and is affecting our sewer system, tree survival, energy grid, and more. Joel Stauber discusses ways each of us can mitigate the effects of weather variability.
