Going Green with NPL

PrintPrint

Friday, November 14 is your last chance this year to recycle special items at the Northfield Township Garage before they close for the winter. Items you can drop off for recycling include:

  • household paint
  • engine oil and transmission fluid
  • televisions
  • computers
  • styrofoam blocks
  • tires
  • toner cartridges
  • usable bikes and toys

See the Township website for a complete list of acceptable items. The garage is located at 1928 Lehigh in Glenview and is open Monday to Friday, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.

It's back to school time again, and that means packed lunches for many kids. Did you know that on average, a school-age child using disposable lunch packaging and utensils generates 67 pounds of waste per school year?

Instead of using plastic sandwich bags or buying individually wrapped snacks, consider reusable containers, napkins and utensils. Not only will you help the environment, it will also save you money.

For more information and tips, visit Waste-Free Lunches.
