SHARE your time and talents and help spread knowledge, understanding and empathy about our world. Identify a mini-service project.
For the SHARE category, you will use your time and talents to share something that you learned, take action about something that you care about, create a bridge to another land or culture. You are a powerful person! In this activity, you will be a global citizen. Create a mini-service project that has a global component to it. The project should involve another country, culture or language. Here are some suggestions:
- Know another language? Make a bi-lingual coloring booklet for use at the library. To do this, choose 4-8 words in another language. For each word, draw a large, simple, black and white outline picture that illustrates it. Write the word at the bottom in both English and the other language. Create a cover (this can be in color). Bring these pages into Youth Services and we will turn it into a booklet that will be available for children to color.
- Organize family, friends or your classroom and conduct a small fundraiser for a specific, international cause.
- Volunteer to help out in a Globe Trotters storytime. Globe Trotters is a recreational geography program for children in grades K-3 that is held on Sunday, once a month at the Library. Arrange your volunteer time at the Youth Services Reference Desk.
- Design a bookmark about another country. There are limitless ways this can be done. The ideal bookmark will be sized to fit 4 on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. It can be done by hand or on a computer. It can contain artwork, quotes, facts, whatever you want. Bring in your "draft". We will give you feedback and when it is ready, the Library will reproduce it for use in the Youth Services department.
- Visit a cultural museum in the Chicagloand area and create a small display for the library about it. Museums include the Ukrainian ARt Museum, DuSable Musem of African American History, the Swedish Museum, etc. The display could contain artwork, a review, photos, brochures, etc. Visiting the museum with a broader scope like the Art Institute and focusing on a specific collection like the Japanese pottery collection counts.
- Attend a cultural event or performance that has an international origin. This could be music, dance, a movie, a sports event or a fair. Create a small display for the library about it.

Each project counts as one activity.
