The third book in the Kane Chronicles series by Rick Riordan, The Serpent's Shadow was released on May 1st. In this third book the Chaos snake, Apophis is back! Carter and Sadie's only hope is to find an ancient spell. Call the library to see if there is an available copy or ask to be notified when a copy becomes available. |

The winning illustrator is Chris Raschka for his book A Ball for Daisy. When Daisy's ball is accidentally destroyed by another dog in the park, Daisy's owner tries to comfort her. When Daisy and owner return to the park on another day, Daisy is presented with a new ball by the owner of the other dog. New friendships develop between both the dogs and the owners. The large colorful panels in the Youth Services Department with wheels and strings and mirrors galore have been attracting the younger children to play. This large toy is an early literacy center that supports skills that are essential for reading readiness. While children play they are learning skills that will help them become ready to read. Suggestions of activities for parents to do with their children are written on the panels to help parents with these early skills.
