  May Classes

In-person registration begins Saturday, May 3rd at 9:00 a.m. in the Periodicals Room on the 2nd floor.  Registration must be done in-person on the 3rd and patrons are limited to registering for one class that day.  Telephone registration begins May 4th and patrons may then sign up for more than one class.  No advanced registration.

Basic Word: Covers the basics of word processing: how to type and correct text, highlight and change the document’s appearance, print, save and re-open a document. Tuesday May 13, 2p.m.

Digital Photography: Organize, edit, and enhance your photos on your computer.  Create a slide show.  Participants must bring their own cameras with memory card and USB cable. Thursday May 15, 7p.m.

Basic Internet: The fundamentals of navigating and searching on the Internet. Wednesday May 21, 1:30p.m.

Databases v. the Internet: Learn how to find phone numbers, businesses, articles and other information through the library’s subscription databases.  Also covers how to use the library’s catalog, iBistro.  Additional requirement: Experience searching the Internet.  Thursday May 22, 1:30p.m.

Intermediate Word: Covers view controls (zoom, layout, print preview), menu options (menu, button, dropdown list, right click), page management (margins, orientation, page break), envelopes and labels, managing documents (deleting, renaming).  Additional requirement: Previous Word experience.  Tuesday May 27, 2p.m.

  June Classes

In-person registration begins Saturday, June 7th at 9:00 a.m. in the Periodicals Room on the 2nd floor.  Registration must be done in-person on the 7th and patrons are limited to registering for one class that day.  Telephone registration begins June 8th and patrons may then sign up for more than one class.  No advanced registration.

Investment Resources: Learn how to use three online investment resources to find information and ratings on securities: Morningstar, Value Line and Standard & Poor’s NetAdvantage.  This class does not offer interpretation or advice on investing, but focuses only on using these electronic databases to locate information.  Additional requirement: Experience searching the Internet.  Thursday June 12, 1:30p.m.

Excel: Covers the fundamentals of using Microsoft’s spreadsheet program.  Monday June 16, 9:30a.m.

Introduction to Computers: Designed for beginners, this hands-on class will introduce the computer and its uses.   Participants will learn how to use the mouse and the library’s catalog, iBistro.  No requirements. Tuesday June 17, 9:30a.m.

Start Your Search Engines: This class is designed for those who have had some experience searching the Internet and want to learn tips and tricks for using search engines like Google and search directories like Yahoo! to find information.  Additional requirement: Experience using the Internet.  Wednesday June 18, 9:30a.m.

E-mail: Participants can create an e-mail account during class and learn the basics of using e-mail: composing emails, opening and sending attachments, and creating an address book.  Additional requirement: Basic word processing skills.  Thursday June 19, 7p.m.

Basic Web Lessons: Excellent site designed by the AARP but appropriate for anyone.

Dictionary of Computer Jargon: The basics of computer lingo explained.

Finding Information on the Internet: From UC Berkeley, a comprehensive tutorial on finding, using, and analyzing sources on the Internet.

Learn the Net: Find out what you can do on the Internet.

ICYouSee: How to think critically about what you find on the Internet. A must for beginners.

New User Tutorial: Highly visual tutorial on how to use the Mouse and search the Web.

Webopedia: Type in keywords to get a clear definition of any computer and Internet related terms.
