The Life and Times of Coco Chanel


She was one of the 20th century's most influential designers and one of the most influential women of all time, and she is as lively as ever through a historical portrayal performed by Chicago-area historian and actor Annette Baldwin of Moments in Time.

Baldwin's Coco Chanel shares the story of her rise to fame while expounding on her fashion theories and innovations, including the creation of Chanel No. 5 fragrance. A slide presentation is included.

World's Greatest Railroad Journeys


World traveler Bill Helmuth presents an armchair tour of five long distance train trips: the Trans-Siberian Railroad, the Orient Express, the Central Asian train from Moscow to Tashkent, the Blue Train from Cape Town to Johannesburg, and the California Zephyr from San Francisco to Chicago. Discover how these railroads have made history.

Updating Your Landscape

AARP Driver Safety


This two day eight-hour defensive driving course sponsored by AARP will help make you a better and safer driver. You may be eligible for a discount on the liability portion of your car insurance. Register at the Reader Services desk. The fee for AARP members is $12; for nonmembers $14, to be paid in advance.
