Classes
English and literacy classes are held at the Northbrook Public
Library on a regular basis. The classes are conducted by Oakton
Community College. For information and to register call 847-635-1426
or come to the library when a class is meeting to speak to a teacher
about joining. (Please come about 10 minutes before the scheduled
meeting time.)
Summer Session:
NO daytime class in
the summer.
Evening Class:
Classes meet Monday and Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Registration: Monday, June 16 from 6:30 to 8:15
First Class: Wednesday, June 18
Last Class: Monday, August 4
Materials
Learning English:
Adult Basic Reading Collection - consisting of books and
cassettes.
Videos and Audiocassettes - of English as a second language.
Foreign Language Materials:
Books - The library has special collections of books in Korean,
Polish and Russian. We have smaller collections of books in Chinese,
German, French, Hebrew and Spanish. We can also obtain books in
foreign languages from other libraries for Northbrook patrons. Ask
at the Reader Services or Reference Desk for more information or
call our Interlibrary Loan Department at 272-6224 x243.
Newspapers & Magazines - Subscriptions include L'Express
(French), Shin Dong A (Korean), Sinorama (Chinese),
Vestnik (Russian), and Der Spiegel (German).
Videos - The Multimedia Department has a large collection
of foreign films with English subtitles.
