First Thursday Group: Meetings on topics of interest to seniors are held on the first Thursday of every month at 1 pm in the Civic Room.

Large Print Books: Thousands of easy-on-the-eye books are located in the Reader Services Department. See a list of New Large Print Books.
Large Print Periodicals: Reader's Digest and the weekly New York Times are available at the library.
Audiobooks: Thousands of audiobooks are housed in the Multimedia Department. We carry cassette, compact disc, and Playaway audio versions of popular fiction and nonfiction books. See a list of New Audiobooks. You can also get Downloadable Audiobooks with your library card.
Talking Books: People with visual disabilities may qualify for the Talking Books service through Voices of Vision. Forms are available at the Reader Services desk. Once certified, you may borrow audiobooks and equipment which come via the mail. There is no fee.
Video Magnifiers: A closed-circuit TV that enlarges print up to 60 times is located in the Reader Services Department. Others are available for home loan.
ADA Accessible Computer: A computer terminal with Internet access and software that magnifies text and images on the screen is located in the Reader Services Department.
S.A.R.A. - Scan and Read Aparatus: This device can scan a book, magazine or other printed material and then read the text aloud to the listener. It can read a number of languages. Earphones are provided for privacy.
Books on Wheels Program: We deliver materials to residents of local retirement and nursing homes. Arrangements can also be made for home delivery on an individual basis for Northbrook residents.
Books-To-Go: A service for people unable to browse for their own materials. Call 847-272-2958 to request books and audio materials to be held at the Circulation Desk for convenient check out.
Online Resources: eResources and Downloadable Audiobooks are available on this website. Library materials may be reserved or renewed through our Online Catalog.

Closed-Captioned DVDs: Many DVDs with closed-captioning are available in the Multimedia Department.
