    Isabel Soffer leads a book discussion of Theodore Dreiser's classic novel "Sister Carrie," about a country girl who moves to the big city where she starts realizing her own American Dream, first as a mistress to men that she perceives as superior, and later becoming a famous actress.

    Benjamin Goluboff leads a discussion of "King Lear," Shakespeare's wrenching story of love, loss, endurance and reconciliation about an aging monarch obscured by the shadows of dementia who resolves to retire and divides his kingdom among his three daughters. The Chicago Shakespeare Theater is performing the play from September 9 to November 9.

    Copies of the play are available at the Reader Services desk on the 3rd floor.

    The meeting will be held at the Village Hall in the Shermer Study.
