  • Book Discussion: The Garden of Evening Mists

    Nancy Buehler leads a discussion of "The Garden of Evening Mists" by Tan Twan Eng. Copies of the book are available at the 3rd floor Reader Services desk.

    A woman who survived a Japanese internment camp in Malaysia and became a judge looks back on the time after the war when she worked as an apprentice to a Japanese gardener in hopes of creating a memorial garden for her sister who died in the camp.

    The meeting will be held at the Village Hall in the Shermer Study.

    Mike Hominick leads a discussion of "Sing in the Morning, Cry at Night" by Barbara J. Taylor. Copies of the book are available at the 3rd floor Reader Services desk.

    In early 20th century Pennsylvania, a nine-year-old girl is killed in a tragic accident and everyone in the small mining town blames her eight-year-old sister Violet. As her family is torn apart by grief, they'll need to find strength in surprising places.

    Please join us for a memorial gathering in remembrance of Om Johari, the long-time leader of Guided Meditation who passed away suddenly in March. All are welcome to honor his memory, either by sharing your thoughts and memories about Om or just sitting quietly in silent meditation. Class member Liz Gardner will facilitate the last meditation lesson Om intended to teach.
