Q: Will all work be first shift? What’s the earliest that work can begin?
A: Yes, work should take place during the day, during normal business hours. Work could begin as early as 6am during the week before the library opens at 9am.

Q: Are scale drawings of the building available?
A: Yes, we will provide scale drawings on the website. See the section "Additional Bid Documents" below to download.

Q: Are there IDFs on each floor?
A: All cabling for this project will run back to the first-floor network room / IT office.

Q: Can parts of the network go down during the project?
A: Yes. Ideally we will find ways to split up the outages so that staff can continue to work and minimize downtime and disruption to service.

Q: Are floor plates with electrical remaining?
A: Yes, existing floor plates with electrical are remaining in the floor, but the data and jacks are being removed.

Q: Are there specifications for conduit?
A: No, there are no specifications for the conduit.

Q: Is there a preferred brand of cables and jacks?
A: No, there is no preferred brand of cables and jacks.

Q: Will you want the manufacturer’s warranty?
A: Yes, 25 years as outlined in bid.

Q: Will plenum cable be required?
A: Yes.

Q: Is there a typo in the bid package? Should 10 GB on page 9 be 1 GB?
A: Yes, that is a typo. The Cat 6 cable should meet the standard specifications of 10GB at a maximum of 55 meters and 1 GB beyond that.

Q: Do you require Cat 6 or an enhanced Cat 6 cable?
A: We are looking to install regular Cat 6 cabling.

Q: Can you confirm Cat6 cable does not need to be 10GB rated. A: The Cat 6 cable should meet the standard specifications of 10GB at a maximum of 55 meters and 1 GB beyond that.

Q: Are existing patch panels being used?
A: No, new Cat 6 patch panels will be need to be supplied by the contractor. The project also requires an additional patch panel to prepare for another project and should be included in your bid response.

Q: What’s happening with the blue cable and patch panel in the “telephone room”?
A: The patch panel in the telephone room will need to be replaced with a new one and relocated to the network / IT room. The blue cabling will need to be replaced with updated cabling and run to the network / IT room.

Q: Will patch cables to workstations need to be provided?
A: No just patch cables to the MDF. We do not need patch cables for workstations.

Q: Will there be storage in library (ladders, cable, carts) or will we need to include in pricing storage container?
A: Per the bid notice, the vendor will need to provide a storage container that will kept on library property, in a spot chosen by the library. Storage space will not be available in the library.

Q: Can a scissors lift be brought in to the building? Does the floor need to be protected?
A: Our largest elevator may not be large enough for a scissor lift. A smaller lift or hybrid unit may fit. The floor does not require special protection, unless there is reason to believe that the lift would damage the carpet.

Additional Bid Documents

Beginning on October 1, 2018, the Northbrook Public Library [the “Owner”] is accepting bids for the following project:

LIBRARY CABLING PROJECT

The Project will include replacement of CAT 5 network cables with CAT 6 network cables and adding new drops where needed.

A mandatory walk through will be held on October 8, 2018 at 1:00pm CST.

Bids are due on or before October 26, 2018, at 3:00pm CST. at which time they will be publicly opened and read.

In sealed envelopes. The Bidder will hand deliver or mail (3) hard copies as well as (3) soft copies on (3) USB Flash drives that are labeled with the Bidder’s name to the following below:

Bids must bear the Bidder’s name and address, and be clearly marked:
“LIBRARY CABLING PROJECT DUE 3:00 P.M. October 26, 2018.”

Bids submitted by fax, electronic, or telephonic means will not be considered. The Owner reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive any irregularities.

Bidders will be required to comply with all laws, including those relating to the employment of labor, and payment of the general prevailing rate of hourly wages in the locality in which the work is to be performed for each craft of type of worker or mechanic needed to execute the contract or perform such work, including the general prevailing rate for legal holiday and overtime work, as ascertained by the Owner or by the Illinois Department of Labor for Cook County, Illinois, shall be paid for each craft or type of worker needed to execute the contract or to perform such work.
