New Author Series Debuts at Northbrook Public Library Primary tabs

On Thursday, September 10, the Northbrook Public Library will debut its brand new Evening with the Author series, which will bring some of today’s most talented writers to Northbrook for a night of literature.

At each Evening with the Author event, authors will read a selection of their work, answer audience questions, and sign copies of their books. The Book Bin will be providing books for purchase at each event.

“We’re consistently trying to bring new and exciting programs to the community,” said librarian Mike Hominick, creator of the series. “Evening with the Author is a great way to connect our patrons to the people that write the books they love.”

Author Rebecca Makkai will kick off the Library’s new program series on Thursday, September 10 at 7pm in the Auditorium. Makkai is the author of two novels: The Borrower, a Booklist Top Ten Debut, and The Hundred-Year House, winner of the Chicago Writer’s Association Novel of the Year award. She will read from her latest work, a collection of short stories entitled Music for Wartime, at her event.

“[Makkai] is from the North Shore area, so her experiences will translate nicely to our own community,” said Hominick. “I think people will really enjoy hearing about her style and her process.”

“She is one of those writers who is on the verge of becoming a household name,” added Hominick.

Following Makkai on Thursday, October 1 is Northbrook native Robert Kurson, who is best known for his 2004 bestselling book Shadow Divers. On October 27, the Evening with the Author series will host a special mystery writers’ panel, just in time for Halloween.

The Northbrook Public Library is located at 1201 Cedar Lane. Admission and parking for Evening with the Author events are free and open to the public. For more information, please visit www.northbrook.info or call the Reader Services department at 847-272-2958.
