Interlibrary Loan
Can't find a book or article at the library, or in our library system? Northbrook Library cardholders can request books, articles, CDs, and DVDs through interlibrary loan from libraries across the United States.
We offer two other options: Find More Illinois and WorldCat FirstSearch. (Find More Illinois typically results in faster delivery, so we suggest trying it first.)
Find More Illinois
Search for and request materials throughout Illinois. Log in with your library card number and password/PIN.
WorldCat
Search for and request materials throughout the United States. When you find the item you want to borrow, select the "Borrow this item from another library" link, fill out the form, and click Submit. Please note: We recommend WorldCat FirstSearch for the best results, but you can also use WorldCat.org as an alternative interface.
FAQs
Do you need assistance in requesting an Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?
Interlibrary Loan requests can be made by emailing reference@northbrook.info, calling the library, or in person at any of the service desks on the second and third floors. Provide as much information about the item as possible such as title, author, publisher, and year of publication.
How long does it take to get an Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?
The Interlibrary Loan process typically takes at least two to three weeks, depending on the location of the book and the lending library's response time. Find More Illinois tends to be faster than WorldCat. Some materials, like genealogical publications, are difficult to borrow through Interlibrary Loan.
How long may I keep the book?
The loan period for each item is determined by the lending library.
How can I renew an item?
Contact the Interlibrary Loan office at 847-272-6224, ext. x113. Please note: many Interlibrary Loan materials cannot be renewed, and some may be restricted to in-library use only. We will make every attempt to renew items when possible.
