Ways to Support the Library

The Library welcomes your generosity in supporting our mission. Gifts to the Library are gifts to the entire community.  Donations are recognized in an appropriate manner, depending on the type, size, and donor wishes.

Monetary Donations

The Library welcomes donations to the library.

You can make an immediate credit card donation, either directly to the Library or to our Foundation through PayPal. Payment can be made by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express.

Books

Thousands of used books are donated to the library every year. These items are evaluated by the Friends of the Library and staff, and a small percentage are added to our collection, while the majority are sold in the Friends of the Library Used Bookshop.

Book donations can be dropped off at the Friends of the Library Used Bookshop (located near the west entrance) during their open hours or in the donation bin in the west vestibule. We do NOT accept encyclopedias, medical or legal texts, or A/V materials. We regret that we cannot pick up donations from locations outside the Library.

For tax purposes, the Friends of the Library can supply documentation on the number of books donated; however, a value cannot be assigned to them. To obtain a donation receipt, please visit the Bookshop during its open hours.

Commemorative Gifts

Consider purchasing a memorial brick or name a seat in the Auditorium. All gifts are tax-deductible and go to the Northbrook Public Library Foundation, which supports the library’s capital improvement projects.

Friends of the Library Donations

Donate to the Friends. Joining the Friends of the Northbrook Library is a great way to support the library and receive special benefits.

Artwork

The Library welcomes inquiries about donating artwork. All proposed donations are reviewed to ensure they align with the Library’s mission and that appropriate space is available for display. Acceptance of artwork donations requires approval by the Executive Director. The Library determines the placement, display, and duration of any donated artwork.

Sponsorships

Donor support helps the Library go beyond what public funding alone can provide. It allows us to pilot new ideas and offer optional and start-up programs, special projects, and enhanced services that enrich our community and align with the Library’s mission.

We welcome sponsorships and donations from individuals, businesses, and organizations that align with the Library’s mission and values. If you’re interested in supporting a program, collection, or initiative, please contact our Finance & Operations Director to explore available opportunities.
