Truffles the Bear is Retiring

Truffles the Bear

On Sunday, March 17, Truffles, the 4-foot tall stuffed bear who arrived to take up residence in the library’s Youth Services department back in 2015, will serve his last day at the Northbrook Public Library, as he gets ready to embark on new adventures in retirement.

Kelly Durov, Youth Services department manager, said although she’s sad to know Truffles is leaving, she’s also happy for him and his new life.

“Truffles has been here a long time and now he can be on his own and rest and enjoy his retirement,” she said. “We loved having him as part of the department.”

Prior to his role at the NPL, Truffles served as an outdoor mascot for the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in Park Ridge until the business closed. The owner of the chocolate factory sent Truffles to the library when she learned there was enough space here for the hardworking 4-foot tall bear.

Ever since his arrival, Truffles has been a steady and comforting presence to patrons, particularly the children who liked to pet his face, give him hugs, and sometimes share their favorite book with him.

Children who would like to say goodbye and write a message to Truffles can visit him in the Youth Services Department until Sunday, March 17.
