Ham Radio in the Collaboratory

In partnership with the NSRC, a working ham radio is situated in the Collaboratory, the library's makerspace on the 2nd floor. Availability and use of the radio are limited. Please read below before your visit:

Radio Availability

  • The radio and associated equipment is only available for use during the Collaboratory’s open hours:

    • Sunday & Monday: CLOSED

    • Tuesday-Thursday: 10am - 8pm; closed 1:30 - 2:30pm on Tuesdays June 17, August 12, September 23, October 21, and November 18 for staff meetings

    • Friday: 10am - 5pm

    • Saturday: 10am - 4pm

  • Use is not allowed during programs held in the Collaboratory
     

Appropriate Use of the Radio

  • If others are waiting to use the radio, your time may be limited to 15 minutes

  • Improper or reckless use of the equipment, or transmitting without a license, will result in the immediate loss of access to the equipment

  • Headphones may be required to limit disruptions to others in the Collaboratory
     
  • Speak at a normal or low volume
     

Who Can Use the Radio

  • You must have an active, FCC license for amateur radio. Staff will verify your license using the FCC’s license search site: https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchLicense.jsp
     
  • You must present one of the following types of ID:
    • A current, valid ID (state ID, driver’s license, passport) with your correct name and address matching your FCC license information
    • A current utility bill or bank statement with your correct name and address matching your FCC license information
    • A printed or digital copy of your FCC license
    • A valid library card with your correct name and address matching your FCC license information
