Returning Materials

Where can I return items to the library?

Our outdoor bookdrops are open 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. You can also return materials in the lobby during our open hours

How can I see what I currently have checked out?

To see what you currently have checked out, you can access your library account. If you are not sure what your PIN/password is, you can click the Forgot Your Password link below the Password field. If you need further help accessing your account, email us at circulation@northbrook.info.

What if I can't return my items right away?

We understand that not everyone will be able to return their items immediately. We do not charge fines for overdue items. Learn about our fine free policy.

What if I have a lost or damaged item?

You can call us at 847-272-6224 or email us at circulation@northbrook.info to let us know about any lost items. Items not returned after being overdue for six weeks will be considered lost. You will be billed for any lost items at the replacement cost. However, you can receive a refund for the lost item if it is returned to the library in good condition within 30 days of payment. (Replacement copies are not accepted in lieu of payment.)

As a library that circulates a high number of items annually, we recognize that normal wear and tear and accidents happen. As such, we do not charge for damaged items.

Can I return items checked out from another library through interlibrary loan?

Yes, you can return items from other libraries. We will send the returned item back to its home library.
