Like libraries across the country, we continue to experience a strong demand for digital materials, including digital books, audiobooks, and magazines, as well as streaming movies, TV, and music. Digital materials account for about 20% of our checkouts each year. For example, in 2024, Northbrook Library cardholders used the Libby app over 162,000 times to check out ebooks and eaudiobooks, in addition to accessing films, magazines, and music via the other digital library services. High school students who are interested in volunteering at the library this summer are invited to apply to be a Summer High School Volunteer for a chance to gain real-world experience, earn service hours, and be part of an amazing team. Learn more

The Northbrook Public Library Board of Trustees is seeking a candidate to fill a temporary vacancy on the Library Board. The selected candidate will serve until the next regular election in Spring 2027. Applications are due by Monday, April 7. Learn more and submit an online application.

Northbrook resident and lifelong sewer Julie Kay is using her passion for civic engagement and design to help get out the vote this election season. With the help of the staff and equipment in the Collaboratory, Northbrook Public Library’s makerspace, she has embroidered approximately 30 upcycled jackets, spreading democracy fashionably.

Last week, as part of our standard procedures, the Northbrook Public Library reached out to the cardholder who reserved a meeting room for a film screening on Wednesday, September 18.

Enjoy watching a different silent film in the Auditorium each Wednesday in September at 2pm & 7pm. These film gems will be accompanied by pianist David Drazin, one of only 35 pianists in the country who specialize in piano accompaniment for silent films. Register for the films here.

Northbrook Public Library invites the community to read Clark and Division by Naomi Hirahara and then join them in October for a series of programs that explore the book’s themes. The highlight of the series will be a visit from the book's author, Naomi Hirahara on Wednesday, October 18 at 7pm. The best-selling author of Clark and Division will join us in the Auditorium to discuss her book and answer questions from the audience. This event will also be live-streamed on Zoom for those who cannot attend in person. Read on
